CHAOS ensued on Saffron Walden's High Street on Monday as rush hour traffic was brought to a standstill by a broken down bus.
The Walden Travel coach was left straddling the crossroads junction at the bottom of the High Street at around 4.45pm, just as traffic had started to build up.
The driver, who remained unnamed, reported that the bus had broken down as a result of transmission failure.
He said: "It is the second time this has happened today. I don't think it could have happened in a worse spot though."
At peak time, between 5pm and 5.30pm traffic stretched right the way up the High Street in both directions from the crossroads traffic lights, before a mechanic arrived at around 6pm to get the bus moving again.
