A SECOND attack on ticket machine in the past nine months has prompted a councillor to take action.

Whittlesford train station has been subjected to a spate of vandalism and now district councillor for the region, Cllr Peter Topping, is calling for CCTV to be installed.

Cllr Topping said the recent attack on the ticket machine was "against a background of ongoing vandalism".

"In the last two years there has been serious vandalism to a passenger shelter, which was left for weeks with all its windows smashed," said Cllr Topping. "Graffiti was scrawled on walls earlier this year and damage was caused to a number of bikes last summer."

The latest attack on the ticket machine happened on April 15. The first time it happened the ticket machine was out of action for two months.

"National Express has improved lighting round the station. But is it enough?" said Cllr Topping.
