Two elderly people escaped unharmed after a car reversed into a ditch in Saffron Walden earlier today (Thursday).

According to an eyewitness, it is believed the car, an automatic which had been parked in the Common car park, was accidently driven backwards into The Slade to the rear of the police station.

An ambulance crew, a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance officer were called to the scene, shortly after 12noon, but the man and woman in the vehicle were not hurt.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “We were called to a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision on Castle Hill. We sent an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance officer.

“The elderly man and woman did not suffer any injuries. They were not taken to hospital.”
