Artists, designers, art schools and celebrities contributed their artwork to the ‘Art for Action’ project, organised by the Dunmow committee of children’s charity Action Medical Research.
An exclusive sale of the original postcard-sized pieces of artwork at Gallery in the Garden, Great Saling, on February 28 raised £4,700 for the charity.
The theme of the pieces was ‘Childhood Memories’ and established and budding artists entered their artwork for the exhibition. Artwork was received from an impressive array of celebrities including: Stephen Fry, John Hurt CBE, Sir Roger Moore, Charlie Waite, Paul Benney and Jenny Hanley.
Lucy Hynes, community fundraising manager for the region, said: “We are delighted to have raised such an amazing amount of money and we thank everyone who submitted their artwork to make the exhibition and sale such a success.”
The event raised money to help fund medical research into conditions affecting babies and children. Action Medical Research has been funding medical breakthroughs since it began in 1952. The charity is currently supporting work around Down syndrome, epilepsy, sickle cell disease, and diabetes, as well as some rare and distressing conditions that severely affect children.
