A TROPHY in memory of a woman who was the pillar of Chrishall life has been presented to pupils by the parish council.

For many years Irene Cranwell played various roles in the village including a teacher, parish councillor and choral singer.

Prior to her death in January, just six weeks before her 100th birthday, she was keen to set up an award for Chrishall School to present each year to a class or group of pupils for their achievements.

The inaugural award went to the school’s Eco-Squad. The trophy and certificates were presented by Mrs Cranwell’s daughter, Susan Davies.

Mrs Cranwell’s son, Jonathan, presented a picture of their mother, with brief biographical details, to accompany the trophy.
