Economics students at Saffron Walden County High have received high praise at the school’s annual awards evening.

The event, which is held specifically for economics students, saw pupils congratulated on completing their course and a presentation by Professor Anna Vignoles of Cambridge University.

Titled ‘The Economic Value of Education’, the speech explored the benefits of education in poorer countries as well as the value of degree-level work in the UK.

Students picking up prizes on the night were praised for their outstanding progress or achievement in the subject, with prizes donated by Saffron Building Society and presented by its chief executive, Colin Field.

A spokesman said the evening also saw plenty of refreshments and a “delightful” musical accompaniment performed by Kieran Marshall on the saxophone.
