MARRIED couple Stewart and Kirsty Hart celebrated their wedlock by becoming the first couple to plant a tree in an arboretum in Finchingfield.

The Widdington pair, who held their wedding reception at Spains Hall last May, returned to the venue to commemorate their marriage and make a lasting symbol of their love for one another.

Tim Ruggles-Brise, Spains Hall's owner, said: "Woodland management is something that has been carried out at Spains Hall for hundreds of years.

"This was an opportunity to continue that tradition, as well as allowing our guests to mark the day of their wedding, and encourage them to maintain contact with us."

The tree-planting ceremony was attended by a dozen couples including Suzi and Maurice Becqué from Holland, who were the first couple to marry at the Grade II listed venue.
