A court order has been issued against two groups of travellers who pitched up in Saffron Walden this week.

The groups are located behind the Lord Butler Fitness & Leisure Centre, off Tukes Way, with four caravans and other vehicles parked there.

A further two caravans and other vehicles have positioned themselves at Swan Meadow in the town.

Following reports of the encampments, Saffron Walden Town Council has been working with Essex Countywide Traveller Unit to move the groups on.

This is because the land behind the Lord Butler Leisure Centre is leased to the town council.

An eviction notice was served by the traveller unit at 10am yesterday morning, giving the groups 24 hours to leave the sites.

Earlier today, however, the encampments were still there and a court order has been issued for Tuesday.
