NEARLY 300 Year 6 children from eight Uttlesford schools had a busy and creative day when they took part in workshops as part of the annual Primary Arts Festival

More children than ever before participated in the festival, which this year was based on the Olympic theme of ‘The Discobulus of Myron’, a famous Greek sculpture of a discus thrower, circa 460-450 BC.

The workshops were held at all eight of the schools – Ashdon, Chrishall, Dame Bradbury’s, Great Chesterford, Katherine Semar, R A Butler, St Mary’s and St Thomas More – and featured DT, ICT, Art, Collage and Sewing, Drama, Dance, Photography and Music.

The latter was led by Dame Bradbury’s music subject leader, Bryn Jones.

“I was very impressed with how well the children worked as a group,” said Mr Jones. “There was a range of musical abilities, from beginners to Grade 4, and everyone joined in with the national anthems and other Olympics related music with gusto.”

Dame Bradbury’s headteacher Jane Crouch, who organised the festival with support from Great Chesterford School, said: “It was wonderful to see the children working and playing together.

“The children were obviously inspired by the Olympic theme, and the ‘show and tell’ sessions at the end of the day were testament to the energy and enthusiasm they had put into their work.”
