THIS is the man detectives want to speak to in connection with an armed robbery which took place in Saffron Walden four months ago.

The armed robbery happened on Friday, September 5, 2008 when four staff members were locked inside NatWest on Market Place shortly before 9am. Detectives have now released a CCTV image in a bid to identify the suspects as well as potential witnesses.

A man had earlier broken into the bank after gaining access from the building's roof. He then forced the manager and his three female staff members into the vault while holding a small, black handgun. He stole a five-figure sum of cash using a cash bag from the bank.

Staff managed to activate an alarm which alerted police to the incident.

Investigating Officer, Dc Janet Collins, said: "From the CCTV, we need to identify who this man is and who the potential female witness is. Both were walking on Market Row, just down the road from the scene of the robbery.

"We would also like to hear from anyone who saw any suspicious activity on the bank's roof in the days leading up to the robbery."

The man is described as white, in his mid 20s, approximately 5'10" tall, of slim build, has a large, distinctive nose and has big eyes. At the time, he was wearing a black-and-white horizontal stripped top.

He is seen carrying an object under his right shoulder. The woman seen in the image is white and is dressed in light coloured trousers, a light top and a dark coloured cardigan.

Anyone with information in connection with this robbery, is urged to contact detectives at Dunmow police station on 0300 333 4444.
