PROUD mums and dads can get their picture-perfect babies photographed for free as part of an exciting competition running every day next week.
The Saffron Walden Reporter has teamed up with Saffron Walden Town Library to launch the baby of the year competition 2008.
Organiser Jane Hill said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to have their baby's picture taken by a professional photographer.
"The pictures will be eligible to enter the baby of the year contest - voted for by Reporter readers - and the winning entry will receive £100 worth of Boots vouchers."
A professional photographer will be based at the library, on the Market Square, between 10am and 4.30pm from Monday June 30 until Saturday July 5. There is no need to book and parents can just turn up with their little bundles of joy.
Babies can be entered in three different age categories: nought to nine months, 10 to 18 months, and 19 to 36 months.
The pictures will be displayed in the library, and available to purchase, on July 10 and 11. People can vote for their baby of the year from July 24 when the photographs will be printed in the Saffron Walden Reporter.
In conjunction with the competition the library will by running a week-long series of events especially for parents and babies.
Library manager Jill Palmer said: "We have books for absolutely all ages - you are never too young to join the library. I hope that parents will take this opportunity to have a look around the library and see what is on offer for their children.
"Encouraging reading and book use from the earliest years is proven to lead to better attainment levels at school and throughout life."
Every weekday at 2.30pm there will be a special story time, with rhymes and songs, aimed at the under-threes. Dads are welcome at any time, but especially at Daddy Cool at 10am on Saturday (July 5).
On Friday afternoon, the Family Information Service will be on hand to give advice about childcare, benefits and all sorts of useful information. And the Real Nappy group will discuss the pros and cons of washable versus disposable nappies on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.
The library is free to join and free to use. For more information about the library call them on 01799 523178. For details about the baby of the year competition call Mrs Hill on 01799 512884.
