Domino’s Pizza has served up a bid to get a slice of Saffron Walden’s fast-food trade.
The takeaway giant has put in a planning application to open a restaurant in the premises vacated by Evergreen Florists, in Market Row.
Domino’s estimates the town centre outlet, with the shopfront facing Hill Street, will create a mixture of 35 part-time and full-time jobs.
In its submission statement, the company said: “The unit in question has been vacant since July 2013 with very limited interest from any viable Class A1 operator to occupy the premises.
“Therefore in its current form, the unit does not maintain or enhance the role of Saffron Walden as a retail service centre.
“The proposal to occupy the unit by Domino’s can only increase footfall within the area and reinforce the town centre as a retail service centre.”
It has been claimed by Domino’s that only one delivery vehicle or bike would be required during the day and that this will make visits only when a bulk number of orders are ready at once.

Otherwise the delivery vehicle will be parked in a nearby public car park, the company has said in its submission to planning authority Uttlesford District Council.
Domino’s adds that there is temporary parking available “further along Hill Street”, which can be used by members of the public in the evening.
The company has also identified temporary parking in Market Row, plus Waitrose’s Hill Street car park and the Common car park nearby to alleviate concerns.
