A driver had an “incredible escape” on Christmas Eve after a crash on the M11 sliced a car in half.
The vehicle left the road at Junction 9A near Great Chesterford and collided with a large motorway sign at about 2.25pm last Tuesday (December 24).
Firefighters were called to the one vehicle smash and gave two casualties first aid at the scene.
Incident commander, Nigel Webb, from Saffron Walden fire station, said: “The vehicle had left the road and collided with a large motorway sign, the impact effectively sliced the vehicle in half sending the front of the vehicle into the nearside bushes and the rear half onto the hard shoulder, simply an incredible escape for the driver.”
An East of England Ambulance Service Trust spokesman said there were two patients involved in the crash and both escaped with minor injuries. One was believed to be a man in his 20s.
He said: “They were remarkably fortunate to come away from the incident in this condition as the situation, and their injuries, could have easily been much more serious.”
Two fire crews from Saffron Walden were called to the crash, along with one from Newport and another from Cambridge. The incident was dealt with by 3pm.
