The Dunmow Wind Band has been made the official band of Great Dunmow.

The decision was made at a town council meeting on March 21, after mayor Councillor Barrie Easter made the recommendation.

Cllr Easter said: “They [the band] do really good work. They are a great asset to the town.”

Andy King, who founded the band six years ago, said: “It's brilliant. It has been six years of enjoyment and hard work and it's great the council recognise they have got a superb band. We have also got some really exciting events coming up.”

In recognition of the accolade, Dunmow Wind Band will now change its name to the Great Dunmow Town Band.

Speaking to the Broadcast in June last year, Mr King said the band has been involved in raising more than £40,000 for local charities, including Uttlesford Community Travel and St Clare Hospice.
