NURSERY and Reception children at Dame Bradbury’s School enjoyed a taste of India when they sampled an Indian banquet from The Mogul Restaurant in Saffron Walden.
Mr Hussain of The Mogul brought in a wide range of dishes and explained some of the cooking techniques. The children had the chance to feel the weight of the balti dish and read the menus, before tucking into the food itself.
Reception teacher Mr Hartley said: “They clearly enjoyed the spicy flavours as there was almost nothing left over from a very wide selection of different dishes, including chicken tikka, papadom, bhajis and nan.”
Earlier in the day, the pupils had celebrated a different aspect of Indian culture when they learned dances and made Diva lamps to mark the festival of lights, Diwali, the most important Hindu festival in the year. The children also all dressed up in bright colours to celebrate Diwali.
They decorated Indian elephants, made henna patterns on their hands and learned about Indian transport, such as rickshaws, and Indian clothes.
