Firefighters were called to a large field fire covering the size of eight football pitches in Little Sampford yesterday.

Crews were called at 4.41pm to a fire off Thaxted Road, Little Sampford. On arrival, crews reported that the fire had spread quickly and covered around eight hectares of stubble.

Firefighters used two Pinzgauers, appliances which allow them to spray water on the fire while moving across terrain, to try and contain it and prevent it spreading further.

The fire affected a number of bushes, hedges and a quad bike. By 7.02pm, the fire was out completely.

The cause of the blaze has been recorded as accidental.

Crews from Saffron Walden, Dunmow, Newport, Stansted, Sible Hedingham, Manningtree, South Woodham Ferrers and Haverhill attended.
