It was the end of an era at one Saffron Walden school last week when a long serving staff member retired.

A teaching assistant for 20 years, nineteen of which were spent in the reception classes, “much loved” Sally Harrison was given a send-off by pupils and colleague’s on Wednesday afternoon last week.

Executive headteacher Linda Chesworth said: “Sally has supported hundreds of children in the first steps of their learning journey.

“With her gift of getting to know each individual child, she was able to get the best out of them, ensuring even the most shy newcomer joined in with an activity.

“As an incredible cook she also inspired many in their early culinary adventures.”

Sally’s contribution to the school was summed up by one Year 5 child during the leaving assembly. The 10-year-old girl said: “You helped us along the way. Your smile encouraged us. You will inspire us forever. We will miss you.”
