A MUSIC festival for almost 1500 party-goers, which was due to be held on a farm in Great Chesterford in September, has been cancelled.

Organiser of The Grassroots Feastival, Muneer Hassan, said he had become frustrated by the amount of “bureaucracy and red tape” put in his way by Uttlesford District Council.

An application for the event due to be held on Field Farm from September 3 to September 5, which was submitted to the council last week by Muddy Promotions, has now been withdrawn.

Mr Hassan added that he had received some opposition to the event from people in Great Chesterford and he did not want to fight the issue.

“I wanted to come here and put on a party, but this has just been an uphill struggle,” he said. “If the residents don’t want it and the council doesn’t want it then I’m not here for the aggravation. I don’t get paid for this and I want to enjoy my summer.

“It’s a shame because there was enthusiasm from young people in the area. I’ve had some lovely emails and phone calls from youngsters in Great Chesterford and Saffron Walden who say this type of event doesn’t come to the area very often.

“It’s frustrating because the council have taken so long to get back to us over anything that it’s got to the point where there’s too much risk. We’ve only sold about 100 tickets so far and I can’t start advertising until a licence has been approved. It looks likely now that our application will get rejected and I’m not going to take this to appeal.”
