A MAN was struck and killed by a train this morning (Friday) on the line near Great Chesterford station.

A MAN who was struck and killed by a train on the line near Great Chesterford station has been named.

Thirty-two-year-old Padraig Corkery, of Hackney, East London, died after being struck by the 6.48am Cambridge to Liverpool Street service on Friday (September 10).

His death is not being treated as suspicious.

British Transport Police officers were called to the scene at 7am to reports that the man had been killed near the crossing in Ickleton Road. Essex Police officers and ambulance crews were also in attendance.

Police closed the road in both directions between Frogge Street and London Road while an investigation was carried out.

An inquest into the man’s death was opened and adjourned yesterday (Wednesday September 15).
