ESSEX Police officers have returned to their normal duties after helping their colleagues in the Metropolitan Police calm the riots that erupted in Tottenham and Enfield over the weekend.
A total of 25 officers, from across the county, assisted on Saturday and Sunday night to help restore peace following rioting across north London and also in parts of Brixton.
The London force initially contacted Essex at 3am on Sunday, August 7, asking for assistance. All Essex Police officers have now returned and none have been injured.
In London over 100 arrests have been made after cars, homes and shops were broken into and set alight. Home Secretary Theresa May is set for an early return from her summer holiday to meet with police chiefs later this week.
The riots were sparked during a demonstration against police following their fatal shooting of Mark Duggan last Thursday.
