NEXT Thursday is the chance to have your say on the future policing in Uttlesford.
The first police and crime commissioner for Essex will be elected next week – bringing an end to the Police Authority.
The PCC’s role will involve working with the public, police and partners to ensure effective policing as well as contributing to national requirements. The PCC will be responsible for overseeing policing on behalf of more than 1.7 million people in Essex.
The role – which will command a �85,000 salary – will involve working closely with the chief constable to make sure the public’s concerns are heard by the very top of the police chain.
In Essex there are six candidates:
• Nick Alston (Conservative)
• Linda Belgrove (Independent)
• Val Morris-Cook (Labour)
• Andrew Smith (UKIP)
• Mick Thwaites (Independent)
• Robin Tilbrook (English Democrats)
Polling stations will be open on Thursday November 15, from 7am to 10pm. To find your closest station, visit uttlesford.gov.uk. Votes will be transferred to Chelmsford where they will be collated and the result will be announced next Friday. For more information on each candidate, visit choosemypcc.org.uk
