THE Essex County Fire and Rescue Service is being investigated over allegations of serious criminal offences.
People have contacted the police and detectives are investigating the matter.
An Essex police spokesman said: “Following a referral by the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate is conducting a criminal investigation into historic allegations of serious criminal offences within the fire service.
“The investigation is on-going and we would not wish to comment further at this sensitive stage of the investigation.”
