LOCAL authors Clare Mulley and Jojo Moyes will be appearing in Saffron Walden for the final event in the Words Around the World literature festival.

Ms Mulley won a prestigious award with her first book, even before it was published.

Festival organiser, Jo Burch, of Harts Events, said: "The last tiem Clare appeared no our festival stage, she was interviewing Claire Tomalin, one of the country's best biographers.

"I'm so pleased to be celebrating her achievement as a biographer in her own right."

The book is a biography of the co-founder of Save the Children, Eglantyne Jebb, who, Ms Mulley explains, "admitted that she didn't like children but nevertheless went on to found the world's most powerful children's charity, now in its 90th year, helping children worldwide. She also drafted the first declaration of children's rights that has now evolved into the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child".

Speaking with her is award-winning local writer, Ms Moyes.

"Jojo spoke at our festival in 2006 and everyone very much enjoyed listening to her. She has published at least another two novels since then so we thought it was definitely time to invite her back," said Ms Burch.

The two writers will be talking about their books, over coffee and croissants, at the Eight Bells on Friday March 27.

"The Eight Bells have been very enthusiastic and supportive and we're looking forward to a lovely relaxed and informal morning to round off what has been an enormously successful and, we hope, entertaining and interesting, festival for Saffron Walden."

Tickets for the last few festival events are available from Harts Books at Shire Hill, online at www.hartsevents.co.uk, or by telephone on 01799 523456. Tickets are also available from the Saffron Walden Tourist Office.
