Festive cheer at Red Lion in Whittlesford

120 pensioners were able to enjoy a free, traditional Christmas lunch with all the trimmings this week, while served and entertained by younger members of the neighbouring area.
This is the first time the Whittlesford restaurant the Red Lion has put on this complimentary spread, which aimed to gather together the more advanced in years from Hinxton, Whittlesford, Ickleton and other rural villages for some festive cheer.
Red Lion owner, Cypriot Agapios Gregorius, took over the restaurant thirty years ago.
“I’ve always had a soft touch for older people,” said Mr Gregorius, who came up with the idea. “It’s a very good chance for them to meet and have a good Christmas.”
Around 30 pupils from William Westley primary school sang Christmas hymns while pudding was served – by teenagers from Sawston Village College, keen to gain some hands-on hospitality experience.
