FIREFIGHTERS from six different stations spend nearly six hours wrestling a blaze at a timber factory in Great Chesterford on Saturday (May 28).
The fire at New World Timber Ltd on London Road, is now being investigated by the police and fire services.
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to the incident at 12.02am. Crews from Saffron Walden, Newport, Thaxted, Stansted, Harlow and Sawston teamed up to tackled the fire.
At 12.48am it was reported that the building is 30 per cent alight. An hour and a half later the incident commander noted that steady progress was being made against the blaze.
The fire was under control by 2.58am but crews overseeing the ventilation, turning over and damping down of the fire stayed until 5.56am to confirm it was safe.
