Police recovered firearms and ammunition from a house in Sewards End, following reports from villagers of a siege on Wednesday afternoon (March 9).

Residents took to social media and reported an armed police presence at the village hall at around 4.30pm.

Police were called to the property in Walden Road following a welfare concern, and removed the licensed firearm, ammunition and an air rifle with the owner’s permission.

A force spokesperson said: “Police went to an address in Sewards End after receiving information about a concern for welfare.

“Officers attended and spoke to the occupant and he subsequently gave permission for a licensed firearm, ammunition and an air rifle to be taken from the property. No offences were disclosed and police left the area.”
