Firefighters attended a blaze in Radwinter in the early hours of Sunday, November 2, after 100 tonnes of wood caught fire on a building site.

Two engines were dispatched to Old Mushroom Farm on Old Roman Road at 1.30am, where crews worked quickly to keep the blaze under control, though operations were hindered by high winds.

Shortly before 3am it was reported the fire had been surrounded. This morning (Monday), crews are visiting the scene, where the fire is burning in a safe, controlled way.

No one was hurt in the incident, and no other property on site is believed to have been damaged in the blaze.

A spokesman for Essex Fire Service said an investigation into the cause of the fire would be carried out after the four-day Fire Brigade Union strike ends, at 6pm tomorrow, Tuesday (November 4).
