A MAN in his seventies was rescued from his loft after falling and injuring himself while searching for old family photographs.

The incident happened at a house in Jacksons Lane, Great Chesterford, just before 1pm on Saturday.

Crews administered first aid to cuts on his hands while waiting for ambulance service paramedics to arrive. They then led the man out of the loft hatch in his bungalow using a triple extension ladder and a safety line.

"Firefighters had to work in a very confined space with paramedics to treat the man before bringing him down the ladder," said Sub Officer Nigel Webb, officer in charge.

"The man had guests coming later that day and was in the loft looking for some old photographs when he tripped over a box and fell cutting his hand. He also suffers from arthritis which didn't help the situation.

"Firefighters administered first aid and then once he had been checked by paramedics brought him out.
