Firefighters were called to a blaze at a first floor flat in Saffron Walden today (Monday).

The property, on Station Street, was heavily smoke logged. Crews from Saffron Walden, Newport and Stansted wore breathing apparatus and used two hose reel jets and one main jet to extinguish the fire just before 3pm.

A high pressure fan was used to ventilate the flat.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service will carry out an investigation to establish the cause of the fire.
