AN investigation is underway into how a blaze broke out at a farm near Broxted in the early hours of this morning (Monday).

The fire was reported in Chickney Hall Farm, Chickney, near Broxted, at about 3.50am.

Firefighter crews from seven stations were needed to tackle the fire in the 17m x 21m building which was well alight on arrival.

The extra resources were needed as there was limited water available at the scene.

Just after 4.50am crews reported steady progress in bringing the flames under control after there had been concern the fire could have spread to nearby buildings.

By 5.35am 80 per cent of the building was still alight and all of it was smoke logged. It took until 6.20am for the majority of the fire to be put out using hose reels, jets and breathing apparatus.

A joint police and fire investigation will be carried out to establish the cause.
