Thousands of visitors from all over the world visited Imperial War Museum Duxford over the weekend (July 11-12) for a feast of nostalgia at the Flying Legends Air Show.

Visitors relaxed at the Vintage Village where they were serenaded by The Manhattan Dolls with sassy 1940s classics, had a chance to sit in a Spitfire and enjoyed slapstick comedy from Laurel and Hardy.

Uncannily accurate reconstructions of Bomb Command briefings were held by Ops 1939-45 to transport show-goers back to the days of the Second World War.

A spectacular flying display also wowed the crowds, with more than 50 aircraft taking to the sky to put on a breath taking tailchase and flypast.

Esther Blaine, public relations manager at IWM Duxford, said: “We welcomed over 30,000 visitors to the Flying Legends Air Show last weekend, including visitors from all over the world.

“There are too many highlights to mention, but they include the wonderful Manhattan Dolls and the extraordinary Laurel and Hardy in the Vintage Village, and in the flying display, a tailchase of 14 Spitfires and a Seafire, the gleaming P-38 Lightning and B-25J Mitchell from the Flying Bulls, the rare sight of the Bf (Me) 109G-4 Red Seven and over 25 historic aircraft taking part in the balbo finale.”

The show is one of many events the museum is hosting to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, including Meet the Veterans and The Battle of Britain Anniversary Air Show.
