HUNDREDS of people lined Dunmow’s streets on Saturday to see this year’s carnival.

Decorated with a nursery rhyme theme, over 70 floats, including the town’s two medal winning Olympians in a horse drawn carriage, led the crowds to the Recreation Ground where the party really started…a variety of acts wowed the crowds before the free concert and the audience dancing into the night.

Dunmow drew huge praise for the quality of the acts and the organisation of the day.

Keith Wheatcroft, chairman of the procession, was delighted with the day.

“We, the committee, were very pleased with the day,” he said. “The sunny weather brought lots and lots of people with in so the crowds were excellent.

“We would like to thank the spectators and entrants for making it a successful day.”

Organisers also paid tribute to the public by saying that they helped create a friendly atmosphere, and thousands stayed to watch a dazzling firework finale.

The winning floats were: Fourchildcare, The Nail Room, Dunmow United FC, Accuro, Dunmow Army Cadets, Dunmow District Guides and Brownies and Burnham on Crouch won the best visiting carnival court.

Money from the street collection will go to Accuro, which provides activities and short breaks for children with disabilities and their families .
