A RECORD-BREAKING open gardens event at Sewards End has raised 1400 for a Wendens Ambo-based charity.

Fledglings provides vital support to parents and carers of disabled children, sourcing and supplying a whole range of aids.

Founder Ruth Lingard received a cheque from Patrick Waite on behalf the Sewards End Horticultural Society during the flower and produce show in the village hall last weekend.

The Open Gardens event was attended by almost 240 visitors who greatly enjoyed wandering around the village and the 14 gardens which were opened to the public.

They were able to relax with tea and cake on the lawns of two of the gardens, admire the splendid vehicles of the Essex section of the Rolls Royce Enthusiasts Club, who held their rally to coincide with Open Gardens, and even buy a few blooms for their own gardens from the plant stall.

The organising committee was absolutely delighted with the total raised for Fledglings and would like to thank everyone who helped in any way.
