A PARANORMAL society is offering town residents a chance to see the spooky side of Saffron Walden, at an all-night event taking place this Saturday.

Not recommended for the fainthearted or easily scared, the seven-hour vigil at The Maltings in Saffron Walden is probably the best chance you will ever have to come face to face with an apparition.

The ghost hunt is being organised by London Paranormal, an organisation formed in 2006 to conduct supernatural investigations into notorious haunted properties across the region.

Chairman Ian Shillito said: "I have experienced many things that at present I can't explain. It seems Essex has an abundance of ghosts just waiting to introduce themselves, and that The Maltings is home to several apparitions.

"During this event our clients get the chance to be proactive in the investigation, becoming team members for the duration."

Running from 9pm to 4am, participants are promised seven hours of spine-tingling spookiness. Four o'clock in the morning might seem like a late time to stay up until, but do not worry - the investigation will mean sleep is the last thing on your mind.

The 600-year-old building, housing Saffron Walden's youth hostel, is the oldest inhabited building in the town, and probably the most haunted.

Mr Shillito said: "With many of its period properties claiming to be the most haunted in the town, all exuding a plethora of paranormal activity, our location encapsulates all these qualities.

"Incidentally, the vast majority of apparitions reputably witnessed all over the town seem to all reflect back to the Civil War and appear Cromwellian in dress.

"Do the reported auditory phenomena and apparitions of children stem from this bloody time in history? There are several reports of moving a black mass. Is this one of the infamous shadow people?"

Tickets for the night of petrifying fun are £59 - call 07982 230208 for more details. And prepare. Prepare for a scare.
