CELEBRITY chefs Rachel Allen and Judy Joo visited Saffron Walden County High last week to meet the school’s Farm Club which will be featured on their new show.

Market Garden Big Adventure will air on the Good Food channel later this month, and will celebrate local producers across the country.

The County High was hand picked to appear on the show due to the uniqueness of its farm club. The produce grown by the students as well as the rare breeds of animals they care for will appear on the show.

After the visit, Rachel Allen told farm manager, Dave Crosby, that “it was the best location they had been to”.

A film crew took some of the vegetables from the allotments back to the studio to be used as ingredients in the show.

The school’s Farm Club was established in 1962, when animals were introduced - it was used to raise funds for the upkeep of the animals.

The club helps make children aware of the care that animals need and the responsibilities involved in growing produce. The success of the farm now means they run a breeding campaign as well as selling produce such as strawberries, potatoes and pumpkins, to school staff and at school events.
