The first ever Cambridge Christmas Pudding Race will take place at Parker’s Piece in December to raise money for Cancer Research.

The event, sponsored by Cole’s Puddings in Saffron Walden, will see teams of six battle obstacles around a short course in fancy dress with a Christmas pudding on a plate for a baton.

Based on the Great Christmas Pudding Race, which is held in Covent Garden, London, and now in its 35th year, the inaugural Cambridge race will run in conjunction with the Mill Road Winter Fair.

Ali Orr, of Cancer Research UK, said: “We are really grateful for the support and generousity of Cole’s Puddings for helping us put on this event, and to the Mill Road Winter Fair for helping to promote the day. All money raised from the race will go to the Cambridge Institute to help fund research at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. It is great to see different Cambridge communities working together to unite against cancer.”

Simon Hatcher, operations director at Cole’s Puddings, said: “Cole’s are delighted to sponsor the Cambridge Pudding Race for such a worthy cause. “In addition we will be providing puddings for the race itself and to every competitor as a thank you gift for taking part.”
