Headteacher Henry Weir watched the film, which was put together by the children over several weeks and featured thanks, memories and good luck messages, at his final assembly at Great Chesterford Church of England Primary Academy as he ended his 11-year stint at the school.

The 62-year-old, who had a 40-year career in education, was presented with a card, painting, book and presents at a service in All Saints’ Church on Friday (December 18).

Dedications were also paid to Mr Weir in the form of speeches, songs, poems and prayers.

Gifts included a personalised book, a fingerprint painting of the Victorian school building and a touring bike for the keen cyclist, who intends to ride to “far-flung places”.

Mr Weir will also use his free time to see his young grandchildren.

Andrew Taylor, chairman of governors, said: “The school has been lucky to have such a dedicated headteacher at the school for such a long time and he is leaving an outstanding school.

“All the governors would like to wish Mr Weir a long and happy retirement after so many years of dedicated service to education and this school.

“The staff and pupils of the school would like take this opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you to our fantastic headteacher and wish him a very happy, healthy and action-packed retirement.”
