The Minor Injuries Unit is closed today (Wednesday) at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow.

The closure is the result of high pressure on the accident and emergency department a spokesman said. As an alternative, the minor injuries unit at the Herts and Essex Hospital in Bishop’s Stortford is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 4.30pm and the Cheshunt minor injuries unit at Cheshunt Community Hospital is open every day of the year, including bank holidays, from 8am until 8pm.

The Emergency Department at Princess Alexandra Hospital remains open, but patients are reminded that A&E is for serious and life-threatening injuries and conditions only, for example, a loss of consciousness, a very serious state of confusion, persistent severe chest pain or breathing difficulties.

The hospital is asking patients not to got to A&E with common winter ailments, such as coughs, colds, fever or diarrhoea and vomiting.
