PUMPKINS, marrows, jams and jellies - and even blackberry and apple pies - were just some of the delicious harvest produce donated by pupils at Dame Bradbury’s School in aid of British Aid for Deprived Children.
Year 6 pupils held an assembly that portrayed harvest through the story of the Pilgrim Fathers’ arrival in the New World and their first Harvest Thanksgiving with the Wampanoag (Native Americans).
That was followed by a farmers’ market, run by Year 6 pupils, where the donated produce was sold, raising over �275 for Mr Mills’ charity.
Children and parents had also donated groceries such as pasta, cereal and rice, which were given to the Saffron Walden and Haverhill Food Bank.
On Monday, George Mills, who runs the British Aid for Deprived Children charity, came to Dame Bradbury’s to receive a cheque for the money raised. He told the pupils about how British Aid for Deprived Children supports a centre in Ukraine, helping children affected by the Chernobyl disaster in 1986, which is widely considered to have been the worst nuclear power plant accident in history.
