CHILDREN from two Saffron Walden schools showed they were as mad as hatters as they raised fundraising events in aid of the Haiti earthquake disaster.
CHILDREN from two Saffron Walden schools showed they were as mad as hatters as they raised fundraising events in aid of the Haiti earthquake disaster.
The school councils at Ra Butler School and Katherine Semar Junior School came together to organise a fundraising event in each school. The appeals were managed and led by the children who advertised them in newsletters and on posters around their schools.
Katherine Semar created an impressive map of Haiti using spare change; RA Butler ran a crazy hat day where children designed and made all sorts of wonderful hats whilst donating to the cause.
Together the schools managed to raise over �700.
Miss Walbanke, of Katherine Semar, and Mrs Kimber, of RA Butler, said: "Many of our children were very affected by what they had seen on television or in newspapers about Haiti and so were keen to raise as much money as possible.
"It was great that the two schools were able to work together to raise so much money.
"We would like to thank all the parents and carers who donated so generously to this cause.
