A RANGE of exciting summer events has been lined up at Audley End House and Gardens this summer.

Time Traveller's Go allows children to venture into the past and take on some of history's greatest roles.

English Heritage has organised the events on the back of its recent research which suggests that half of the nation's children feel they do not know enough about the country's history, despite 90 per cent highly valuing England's rich history and desperate to learn more.

The research has also provided an insight into children's historical likes and dislikes - most would most like to return to Tudor times while their most favoured historical job is that of a prince or princess.

Henry VIII's 'cut throat' antics won the majority of boys over as he was voted their favourite historical character, while Florence Nightingale's healing nature impressed the girls.

Historical events advisor and performer for English Heritage, Mark Griffin, said: "It is great to see that kids are getting really enthusiastic about history - the Time Travellers Go events club is a great way for them to meet new friends, discover how fun learning can be and to explore history in a fun, creative way.

"Many of the events will be hosted by colourful historic characters who remain very much in character the whole day, making sure children experience a truly memorable day out."

All new Time Travellers are presented with their very own 'passport' to the past and awarded a sticker at each event attended. Once the passport is full, they'll receive a special Time Traveller reward for completing their training.
