AN ELDERLY man suffered a serious leg injury following a collision with a car in Saffron Walden’s high street earlier this afternoon (Tuesday).

The East of England Ambulance Service were called to the incident, which involved a blue Mazda, at around 1.20pm outside Boots The Chemist. An ambulance from Cambridge and a rapid response vehicle from Saffron Walden attended the scene.

Qualified student ambulance paramedic Chris Cooper, who arrived first at the scene said: “The male pedestrian, who we believe to be in his 70s, was treated, stabilised and immobilised at the roadside before he was taken to Addenbrookes Hospital for further care.”

The road was closed for around 45 minutes and traffic diverted along George Street while the man received treatment.
