Florence Nightingale has been celebrated alongside her modern day protégés at Saffron Walden Community Hospital.
Staff at the hospital delved into the history of the site and the work that its nurses have done throughout the centuries for the development of medicine and hospital care.
Staff nurses created a stall for the day which was covered in archival material and old photographs, as well as a dedicatory piece to social reformer and founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale.
A raffle at the May event raised £580.
Staff nurse Melanie Grout said: “We wanted Nurses’ Day to be a celebration of the work we do. It is incredible looking back at the history of the hospital and it made everyone realise just how much nursing has evolved since the days of Florence Nightingale.”
