THE fifth Home Energy Show held in Saffron Walden Town Hall was well attended and the organisations represented reported increased interest in ways of reducing energy bills and becoming more sustainable.

Peter Riding, chairman of the Sustainable Homes Network that organised the event, said: “Recent reports on the melting of the sea ice in the Arctic are a reminder that despite the recession we still need to take action to counter global warming.

“It was good to see local businesses offering advice and practical help for people who want to reduce their carbon footprint.”

One of the exhibitors, Mike Hibbs from Hibbs & Walsh Architects, said: “I was delighted that so many of the businesses offering advice and practical ways to reduce your carbon footprint are now based in Saffron Walden. We should be proud that the town is contributing so much to making our country more sustainable.”

Another exhibitor was Robert Flynn from SolarBarn. He said: “The Home Energy Show was a great success. All day we were busy talking to local people who had a real interest in improving the energy efficiency of their homes.”

Dragon Contracts said that they were pleased to support another successful Sustainable Homes Network Show with their continuing campaign ‘Are you sick of ever increasing oil prices? Why not try wood?’

And Trilby Roberts, from Walden in Transition, said: “Green energy for the home was promoted through an affiliation scheme with Green Energy UK, with 10 per cent off the unit price for 100 per cent renewable electricity being offered by the WiT Energy Group.“
