More than 500 people made history on Saturday (May 28) by attending the very first free outdoor film screening in Saffron Walden’s Market Square.
The event was part of Saffron Screen’s 10th anniversary and was organised in conjunction with the town council and Saffron Walden Town Team.
The screening of John Waters’ 1988 film Hairspray was followed by 60s music and dancing in the square, with food available from some of the town’s vendors during the evening.
Mark Starte, from the Town Team, said: “The evening was a great success, the sun shone and people smiled and enjoyed themselves. I am even more pleased to say that one third of the audience came from out of town, which is exactly what the Town Team is trying to achieve.”
