A man who was found dead following a house fire in Ickleton at the weekend has been named locally as David Isaac.
Firefighters from Saffron Walden and Cambridge were called to the fire in Church Street at 7.39am on Saturday and on arrival, found the blaze at the two-storey house “well developed”.
Mr Isaac’s two dogs, who barked to raise the alarm, both survived the blaze.
Cambridgeshire Police said the death was not being treated as suspicious.
A former neighbour of Mr Isaac’s, who did not want to be named, said: “It is very, very sad. A sad way to end your life.
“He was a fit man and was only out walking the dogs the other week.”
A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Fire Service said: “At 7.39am on Saturday, one crew from Cambridge and crews from Saffron Walden were called to a fire in Church Street in Ickleton.
“Firefighters arrived to find a well developed fire. Wearing breathing apparatus crews extinguished the fire using hose reels and jets.”
The spokesman added the investigation into the cause of the fire is still on-going.
