A COMPANY from Saffron Walden who won an award for their ingenious product to make blind people's lives easier was presented with an award by MEP Richard Howitt last Friday.

Leah and Graham Hunter, of Somerwood, who make a variety of walking aids, were presented with the award for their Vizcane.

Mr Howitt said: "It's a brilliant product and a ground-breaking innovation.

"It is a first not just in the UK but in Europe."

The Hunters were told they had won at the International Innovation Conference in Estonia.

The Vizcane is a battery powered walking cane for blind people lit up by light-emitting diodes (LEDs) making users more visible at night.

The company is in talks with a Hungarian firm to produce the cane for £50.
