IMPERIAL War Museum Duxford has launched an evocative exhibition to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of the Second World War.

Beginning on Thursday September 3, IWM will host a new photographic exhibition showing how Duxford prepared for the dark days of conflict. The exhibition will feature photographs from the museum's extensive archives, together with rare photographs, which will be on public display for the first time.

Unique snapshots show how Duxford changed during the years, months and days in the lead up to the momentous occasion at 11.15am on September 3 when Great Britain announced it was at war with Germany.

A fascinating exhibition shows the moment in history, from immediately prior to the outbreak of war, to the announcement itself and Britain in the throes of wartime endeavour.

The exhibition runs until the winter and will be located in the AirSpace hanger. Admission to the collection will be included in the standard museum entry fee.
