A BOLD adventurer has left his Newport home to go on a 2,200-mile charity bike ride – and the Reporter will be there every step of the way.

Jeremy Reed’s Newport-to-Newport mission began on Monday as he left from the White Horse. It will see him cycle solo to John O’Groats, to Lands End, and then back home, which should take about 40 days.

The 54-year-old – who embarked on a 10-month round the world yacht trip last year – is cycling to raise money for Epilepsy Research UK in memory of Sophie Hannon.

The former Saffron Walden County High School pupil who died last July from an epilepsy-related accident. She was just 23.

In support of Mr Reed’s charity trip, the Reporter will be publicising snippets of riding diary each week.
