Firefighters attended a blaze in the early hours of this morning, after a car reported to be stolen was set alight at a car park in Saffron Walden.

Two engines attended the fire in a communal car park in Shrublands at 12.46am, which station officer at Saffron Walden Fire Station, Paul Curtis, says is believed to have been caused by someone setting fire to a Jaguar, stolen in Dunmow three days ago.

A neighbouring car was also set alight by flames from the burning Jaguar, and a stretch of fencing was reported to be ablaze.

Residents from neighbouring properties reported to have heard loud explosions, which firefighters later confirmed would have been the tyres.

Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters used two hose reels and foam to extinguish the blaze, which was out by 1.38am, and the crew left the scene at around 2.20am.
